Artistic Team
Director - Martyn King
Marty has been involved in theatre from a young age performing in local theatre productions of Black Rock and the Laramie Project. After finishing school Marty studied a Bachelor of Performing Arts and majored in Acting. During this time he performed in productions of Much Ado About Nothing, the Bacchae, The Meteorite and a seven hour production of Charles Dickinson's Nicholas Nickleby. After graduating, Marty continued working in theatre as a Stage Manager for productions of Oklahoma, A Glass Menagerie and A Terrible Madness. He has also had success as a self-taught musician and has performed drums in productions of Parade and Spring Awakening. Over the years Marty has had the privilege to work alongside some of Victoria’s most talented directors and actors and looks forward to doing his first Canberra production with Canberra Philharmonic Society.
Music Director - Jim McMullen
Jim McMullen is an Educator, Musician, Conductor and Theatre Director who has a Masters in Education and Degree in Music Education through The University of Canberra and the Canberra School of Music. Jim has taught, played and conducted music in several countries over the past 30 years as well as developing careers in Theatre and Arts Management. During the 80’s and early 90’s he was involved in many shows with Philo and Rep and was Philo’s Director of Music for several years. After leaving Canberra in the early 90’s, Jim was Head of Theatre at CSU in Wagga before heading overseas. Whilst abroad, he ran his own theatre company, Directed and Music Directed a myriad of musicals and plays in several countries until returning to Canberra in 2005. In recent years Jim has Directed Thoroughly Modern Millie, Annie, West Side Story, Showtune, 42nd Street, Les Miserables, Cabaret, and Rock of Ages with Philo, and the highly acclaimed Cosi and three years of Jazz Garters with Rep. He is currently Vice President of Philo and conducts traXion Big Band.
Choreographer - Emma Tattam
Emma has been dancing and performing for the last 30 years. After 20 years of calisthenics, she was bitten by the musical theatre bug 16 years ago and has been involved ever since. Emma directed and choreographed two different productions of Eurobeat – Almost Eurovision. She has also choreographed such productions as Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me Kate, Urinetown and The Wizard of Oz. Emma has most recently been seen on stage in Philo’s Rock of Ages and Cabaret. Emma is a big fan of Cole Porter and is delighted to be working with Philo on Anything Goes.
