Cabaret in the Media

We've had a fantastic opening performances and received fabulous and audience and critical feedback.

"Canberra Philharmonic’s production of Cabaret will stand as one of the great standouts on Canberra’s Musical Theatre scene. Above the stage, the outstanding orchestra offers the reprise tunes as the enthralled audience leaves the theatre, aware that they have seen a Cabaret of the highest calibre. ... This Cabaret is a real feather in the cap for Canberra Philharmonic and the team. Don’t miss it!"
- Peter Wilkins, Canberra Critics Circle

"Of the several stage productions I’ve seen of ‘Cabaret’ over the years, this one was the most pleasing of all. You’d be a dummkopf to miss it!"
- Len Power, Canberra Critics Circle

"This is a musical with a sense of history as well as a dark humour and the power to disturb comfortable thinking. It should not be approached with a light heart and Canberra Philharmonic Society’s production ultimately shows why."
- Alanna Maclean, The Canberra Times

"Angel Dolejsi is mesmerising as the edgy, reptilian MC, commenting on events, singing and dancing up a storm with the brilliantly choreographed and costumed Kit Kat girls. Dave Smith (Ernst Ludwig), Kitty McGarry (Frauline Kost) and Ben Trabinger (Max) contribute characterisations that are strongly supported by an excellent ensemble cast, superb orchestra and costume design for this outstanding Philo production."

Cabaret Set Building Begins!

posted in: Society News | 0

Set building officially started Saturday May 17. We started by building some very sturdy walls, the construction of which was overseen by our youngest helper.

We'll be continuing every Saturday from now (10 am - 4 pm ish). If you can spare some time, we'd love all the help we can get. Please get in touch with us via or join our Friends of Philo Facebook group for the latest news.

There's many ways to help - drilling, putting in screws, painting, holding things, helping with props and costumes... No prior experience needed. We also provide lunch. 😀

Costume Sale

posted in: Society News | 0

We had a very successful costume sale on Saturday April 12. Thanks to everyone who came out to shop. We raised some money to go towards our costumes for Cabaret and to cover renovation costs. We were also pleased to be able to donate some old wedding dresses to Angel Gowns ACT.

The costume sale was necessary to clear some space that is now taken up by our new rehearsal room. Thanks to everyone who helped out in sorting costumes, setting up and packing after the sale, and putting on a fine bbq. You know who you are. 🙂
